03/17/09 - Yoga and Spin
#1 - Yoga
Interesting, but I couldn't get into yoga today. I did all the things she told us to do, but the whole time I was about a second away from laughing. I take yoga with my two besties in town, and we've come to recognize a few of the regulars in class. In particular, we can't help but notice the guy that takes FULL advantage of the wind releasing poses, every time! I walked into class today and my gals had already set up my mat and props, and I noticed that the "Wind Releaser" was right behind us. I was in suspense the entire time, just waiting for the moment when he'd do the deed, on my friend's head!
Needless to say, not really the best mind frame for yoga, but fun nonetheless! Even though I wasn't really mentally present, when it came time for the corpse pose, I was way into it. I lay down, relaxed everything in my body, and then all of a sudden my mind wandered to puppies. Yes, I was dreaming within about 1 minute! I was shooing a load of puppies through a door when I heard this loud, guttural sound coming from... myself! I was snoring! It shook me awake, and I spent the rest of the time wondering if anyone heard me. Quite the amusing class today.
#2 - Spin
Spin class is a great time. I'm one to sweat easily, it's in my genes, but spin really gets my pores going. Anything that leaves me looking like I just got out of the shower is a good workout in my book. Ha, might actually be a funny way to measure my workouts, my sweat-o-meter. Gross, but interesting.
We did a warm-up, some technique drills, and speed intervals today. A couple sets going 1 minute at 80%, 1 minute at 87%, and 2 minutes at 100%. Two minutes doesn't sound that long, until your in the smallest gear you've got, grinding the muscles at full force and full speed. I keep visualizing myself passing the people in front of me to help me get through the set. Of course, my bike is mounted on top of a 20lb apparatus, so I was going no where fast. Still, helps to imagine that I'm swerving through the pack, and pushing my way to the finish line!
03/18/09 - Swim and Cross Fit
#1 - Swim
Brrrr... the water was so cold this morning! I think someone forgot to cover the pool last night because this was the first time I jumped in and did the "I forget how to swim" freakout! Started with my usual warm-up of 100 each Swim, Kick, Choice, Pull, followed by 3x50's at tempo. Still cold, so I guess "warm-up" didn't really apply here today!
I'm still so impressed that I knocked 5 seconds off my time last week. I did a speed workout again today, and was able to stick to my new time again. Started with 7 x 100's at 1:40 each. Then did a 100 pull rest, and another set of 7 x 100's. This set I kicked it up, did the 100's at 1:35 each. Mostly because I was running out of time. I needed to get in the shower before 6:50am to beat the crowd, and I had just a couple minutes left. Missed my cool down today because of the time, but hey, I dropped another 5 seconds! It's like I'm transforming into a swimmer on an almost daily basis. It feels great! 2150m's today or 86 laps. Feeling a little tight now because I had no cool down, so I'll need to figure out the timing of my workouts better.
Everytime I'm in the pool, I have visions of my childhood years with the Loomis Basin Dolphins. I never took swimming seriously, contact sports were more my thing, but it was still fun. I try to recall all my instruction when I'm pulling, or kicking, or going for a flip turn. I might just have to hit up one of my family friends for his expertise. He's been a swim coach for years, and it'd be nice to have him observe me, and help me out with some tips. Let's face it, I'm not doing triathlons to win them, but I'd love to actually say that I'm good in one of the categories. Most triathletes are weak swimmers, so I might just have to capitalize on that!
#2 - Cross Fit
Same old, same old.... well, actually, I haven't even gone yet, but I'll tell you what we're going to do. Hundreds of weighted squats, followed by hundreds of lunges, gut wrenching core, military push ups, running stairs, arm work, and then top it all off with ab work and more squats. That's it in a nut shell. Listen up for tomorrow when I complain about how tight I was during my next workout! HA!!
