03/02/09 - Track
Just one workout today... almost feels like I'm slacking! Ha! It was a stormy day on Monday, complete with some mild earthquakes! I got quite lucky though, and the rain seemed to stop just in time for a brief 1.5 hour window, just in time for my track practice. Do you think the gods are reading my workout schedule?
I headed to track and warmed up with the normal few laps, followed by a series of quicker sets to get the heart going. I love this set, it's called a 1-2-3-2. I could do this all day long. 100 quick, 100 slow, 200 quick, 100 slow, 300 quick, 100 slow, and 200 quick, 100 slow. LOVE IT!
Next was the bulk of the workout. Again, doing some speed work at track. I don't have a whole lot of experience with speed work, training for a marathon and all we focused on distance. I just love the speed work! It's supposed to help you bring your pace up, so I'm looking forward to seeing what effects it will have on me.
The set was a 6-2-2-2-6-2-2-2, and we repeated it two times (look up above to get the logic of those numbers). We were chatting through it a bit at first, but really picked the pace up until we got silent. It was nice to see that I had the stamina and mind set to keep my pace consistent the entire time. Oh, and even finish stronger the last set! Pacing can be a tough thing to master, but that's definitely something I've had to face and work on during my running... start out too fast, and you just peter out by the end. Start out too slow, and you'll be wasting time! Last night was a nice reminder that I've been learning a thing or two about my training zones.
Followed this up with a cool down, and even better, some shopping! I needed to make a serious pit stop at the beginning of practice, but as luck would have it, we had no toilet paper in the facilities. So, why not stop at the nearest department store? This was a great stop for me and I actually had to put things back that fit! I seem to really be trimming down lately, and have moved completely out of the XL clothing arena... I even got my first Medium in years! I couldn't have asked for a better confirmation that all this training is starting to transform me into a triathlete!
